Rapid prototyping and functional product development by Create It 3D South Africa

TEST THE IDEA BEFORE YOU COMMIT

Rapid Prototyping Services

Move from a concept or CAD file to a physical, testable prototype with the right level of speed, finish and function.

Create It 3D coordinates design, 3D printing, finishing and specialist processes around the question the prototype must answer. The goal is useful evidence before you invest in final production.

FROM IDEA TO EVIDENCE

A prototype should answer a specific question.

Some prototypes need only communicate size and appearance. Others must prove fit, movement, assembly, load, heat resistance or user interaction. We define that purpose first, then select an economical route.

Projects may combine CAD design, 3D scanning, FDM or resin printing, purchased components, electronics, finishing and assembly. Where specialist work is required, we coordinate an appropriate supplier and keep the client brief clear.

WHAT WE DELIVER

Built around the real requirement.

The route is selected around the job, the evidence required and the final operating or presentation conditions.

Concept and appearance models
01

Concept and appearance models

Check scale, shape, ergonomics and presentation before committing to detailed engineering.

Functional engineering prototypes
02

Functional engineering prototypes

Test fit, movement, assembly and real-world use with a process and material selected for the job.

Enclosures and integrated assemblies
03

Enclosures and integrated assemblies

Develop housings, mounts and multi-part prototypes around electronics or other bought-in components.

Pre-production samples
04

Pre-production samples

Create an approval sample and close the final design gaps before a repeat batch or tooling decision.

A CONTROLLED LEARNING LOOP

Define, build, test and improve.

Each stage has a clear purpose so the project does not become an open-ended design exercise.

  1. 01

    Define the test

Confirm what the prototype must prove, its size, environment, deadline and budget.

  2. 02

    Prepare the design

Review supplied files or create the required CAD, scan or reverse-engineered geometry.

  3. 03

    Build the prototype

Produce and assemble the agreed sample using suitable materials and specialist inputs.

  4. 04

    Review and iterate

Record feedback, revise the design where required and prepare the next sample or production route.

MATCH THE PROTOTYPE TO THE QUESTION

Not every prototype needs the same level of engineering.

A visual model, fit-check part and fully functional prototype have different cost, material and finishing requirements. We scope only the fidelity needed to make the next decision.

A STRONG FIT

Use rapid prototyping when learning has value.

  • The design is new or still changing
  • Fit, ergonomics or assembly must be checked
  • A stakeholder needs a physical sample
  • Production risk should be reduced before tooling
  • A custom one-off may become the final product

WE WILL CONTROL THE SCOPE

Separate must-have tests from nice-to-have finish.

  • Define the main question before adding features
  • Use staged samples for complex products
  • Do not over-finish an early engineering test
  • Approve bought-in components before enclosure design
  • Freeze the production file only after validation

CLARITY BEFORE COMMITMENT

Rapid prototyping questions, answered.

What information should I send?

Send sketches, CAD files, reference photos, dimensions, the prototype's purpose, quantity, deadline and any components it must fit around. The AI intake will identify missing information.

Can you design and print the complete prototype?

Yes. A project can include design, scanning, reverse engineering, printing, finishing and assembly. The exact scope and supplier route are confirmed before pricing.

How many iterations will I need?

That depends on novelty and risk. Simple fit checks may need one sample; complex functional products often benefit from staged iterations. Each iteration is quoted against an agreed objective.

Can a prototype become a production part?

Sometimes. If the material, finish and process suit the real use case, the approved design can move into low-volume production. We will advise when another manufacturing route is more sensible.

START WITH THE QUESTION

Build a prototype brief that can be priced.

Tell the AI what the product must do, what you already have and what decision the prototype needs to unlock.
