A useful scan, not just a point cloud
3D scanning captures the geometry of an existing component. Reverse engineering turns that captured geometry into CAD that can be measured, modified, documented or manufactured.
Before scanning begins, we assess the part, its surface, size, complexity, required tolerance and intended use. That keeps the workflow focused on the output you actually need.

Where the service creates value
Use 3D scanning when the physical part is the only reliable source of geometry, when complex surfaces are difficult to measure manually, or when a digital baseline is needed for redesign and verification.
Capture components where original drawings or CAD files are unavailable.
Turn complex physical geometry into editable CAD for redesign or manufacture.
Capture the surrounding space to design parts that must fit existing equipment.
Create a digital baseline before correcting, strengthening or updating a component.
Compare captured geometry with a digital reference when deviation needs review.
Move captured geometry into prototyping, testing or low-volume production workflows.
Clear from the beginning
Every job is scoped around the part, the required output and the decision the data needs to support.
We confirm part size, material, surface, access, required tolerance and final deliverable.
The part and scan strategy are prepared to collect complete, stable geometry.
Scan data is cleaned, aligned and converted into the agreed mesh or CAD output.
The result is reviewed against the project scope and supplied in the agreed format.

When drawings no longer exist
Reverse engineering is more than tracing a scan. The mesh is interpreted and rebuilt as controlled CAD geometry so features, interfaces and design intent can be reviewed.
The resulting model can support replacement-part manufacture, redesign, fitment checks, tooling, prototyping or future documentation.
Real Create It 3D project
The original PTO component was captured with scan markers, rebuilt as verified CAD and translated into tooling for a replacement boot. This is not a one-off repair; it is a digital manufacturing workflow that can be reproduced.

Broad capability, focused execution
Our workflow is suited to technical teams that need accurate digital geometry, replacement-part data or a dependable starting point for product development.
Real Create It 3D project
The damaged original supplied the only usable geometry. We captured the part, rebuilt the required shape and manufactured a replacement that can be reproduced again when needed.

Why Create It 3D
We connect scanning with CAD, prototyping and production support, so the digital output is created with its real downstream use in mind.
The intended use defines the capture, modelling and verification approach.
Outputs are agreed around what your team needs to measure, modify or manufacture.
Scanning can flow directly into CAD, prototyping and production support.
Work with a local team and coordinate projects from anywhere in the country.
From physical part to accurate digital geometry
Create it 3D helps businesses and individuals across South Africa capture real objects, rebuild damaged or obsolete parts, and turn scan data into useful manufacturing files. We quote the complete outcome you need—not merely a scan—so the scope can include mesh cleanup, editable CAD, dimensional changes, validation and a finished 3D-printed replacement.
We regularly assess small mechanical parts, broken housings, tooling, vehicle components, sculptures, mould references, prototypes and objects with complex curves. The best scanner and capture method depend on the object’s size, surface, detail and the accuracy required for its final use.
A cleaned scan mesh is suitable for archiving, measurement, visualisation or some direct reproductions. An editable CAD model is usually required when dimensions must change, features need rebuilding, or the part will be manufactured repeatedly. We confirm whether you need STL, OBJ, STEP, IGES or another practical format before quoting.
Many projects need more than a digital file. We can manage the full route from assessment and scanning through mesh cleanup, CAD reconstruction, fit checks and a physical FDM or resin print. This gives one accountable workflow when the original part is damaged, unavailable or needs improvement.
Small straightforward scans commonly start around R650–R800. Simple reverse-engineering changes can add roughly R500–R800. These are planning guides only: final pricing depends on geometry, size, access, accuracy, file type, repairs, manufacturing method, finishing and urgency. We confirm a written scope before work begins.
First we review clear photos, dimensions and the intended use. We then define the output, capture the geometry, clean or rebuild the model, and validate critical features. If printing is included, we select the material and process around strength, tolerance, finish and quantity before production.
Customers can send suitable parts to us by courier from anywhere in South Africa. Where an item cannot travel, we assess mobile scanning requirements separately. Include your location, object size, deadline and the final result you need so we can recommend the most efficient route.

Straight answers before you start
The right workflow depends on the part and what you need to do with the data. These answers cover the questions we hear most often.
Accuracy depends on the scanner, part size, surface, geometry, capture setup and final deliverable. We scope the required outcome before scanning so the method is appropriate for the application.
Yes. That is one of the main reasons to use scan-to-CAD. The physical component becomes the geometry reference, and the captured data is rebuilt into the agreed digital format.
Deliverables depend on the project scope. Common outputs include polygon mesh data and engineering CAD formats such as STEP or STP. Tell us which software or manufacturing process will use the file so we can confirm the best format before work begins.
Pricing is influenced by part size, geometry, surface preparation, access, capture time, required accuracy and whether you need raw scan data, a cleaned mesh, reverse-engineered CAD or inspection output.
Yes. We support projects across South Africa. Depending on the part and scope, components can be couriered to us or project logistics can be discussed with the team.
Yes, where the geometry and intended use are suitable. Scanning can flow into CAD cleanup, design changes, prototyping and 3D printing as one connected workflow.
These surfaces can require preparation because they reflect or transmit scanning light. We assess the material and finish during scoping and advise whether temporary surface treatment or a different capture approach is needed.

Plan the project correctly
Capture an existing object and convert the right measurements into usable digital geometry.
Scanning, mesh cleanup and reverse engineering are different stages. Tell us whether you need a visual mesh, editable CAD model, repaired component or production-ready replacement so the scope and tolerance can be quoted correctly.
Create It 3D coordinates the appropriate manufacturing route and supports projects across South Africa. Final pricing and lead time are confirmed after the technical information, files, quantity and delivery requirements have been reviewed.
