How to Fix Common Connection and Tracking Issues
Encountering a sudden hardware disconnection, a stubborn tracking loss message, or software glitches can grind your 3D scanning project to a halt. Whether you are running an entry-level Ferret model or a professional Raptor/Otter unit, most common roadblocks share straightforward solutions.
1. Hardware Connection & Power Failures
If your computer or phone fails to recognize the scanner, or if the software reports that the device is disconnected:
Switch to a Dedicated USB 3.0 Port:
Always plug your scanner directly into a rear motherboard USB 3.0 or USB 3.1 port (usually color-coded blue or red). Front-panel desktop ports or unpowered external USB hubs often fail to deliver the consistent power bandwidth required.
Check Power Delivery:
High-performance structured light and laser scanners demand stable power. If you are using a mobile bridge or adapter, ensure your cables are tightly seated and that your power supply meets specifications.
Verify Camera Permissions:
Ensure Windows or macOS has active system-level permission allowing Creality Scan to access your camera hardware, and check that no background application is hogging the video stream.
2. Fixing Frequent Tracking Loss During Scans
If your preview window freezes or the software repeatedly warns you that tracking has failed:
Slow Down Your Sweep:
The most common user error is moving too fast. Keep your scanning speed smooth, deliberate, and slow—especially when turning corners or capturing complex geometry.
Re-Engage Known Areas:
When tracking drops, do not wave the scanner blindly into open space. Simply pan the scanner back over a section of the object you have already successfully scanned so the software can re-lock its coordinates.
Manage Difficult Surfaces:
Pure black, ultra-glossy, shiny metal, or completely transparent objects will blind optical sensors. Apply a thin coat of vanishing scanning spray or dry shampoo to create a scannable matte finish.
3. Software Freezes and Installation Errors
If Creality Scan crashes during startup or freezes mid-process during point-cloud optimization:
Check Path and Privileges:
Ensure the software is installed in a standard English-only directory without special characters or symbols. Run the application with proper user permissions.
Match System Specs:
Deep-processing features—like rendering super-detail point clouds at 0.02mm or 0.1mm resolutions—require heavy GPU and RAM allocation. If your computer hardware sits below the minimum requirements, lower your software optimization settings to prevent memory crashes.
Important Note
Always ensure your Creality Scan software and device firmware are updated to the latest matched versions. Mismatched firmware can cause unstable data streams, preview stream errors, and failed calibration handshakes.
