Why PETG Is the Tougher Choice for Your Prints

If you’ve been printing with PLA and feeling like your parts are just a bit too brittle for the real world, it’s time to talk about PETG. While PLA is fantastic for display pieces, PETG is the "stronger sibling" you turn to when your project needs to actually hold up under pressure.

Why PETG is stronger:

Impact Resistance: Unlike PLA, which tends to be quite stiff and snaps when it takes a knock, PETG has a bit of "give" to it. It absorbs impact rather than cracking, making it a much better choice for things like functional brackets or tools.

Heat Tolerance: This is a big one, especially in our South African summers. PLA starts to soften at relatively low temperatures—leave a PLA print on a hot windowsill or a dashboard, and you’ll likely come back to a warped piece of plastic. PETG handles heat much better, meaning your functional parts won’t lose their shape when things warm up.

In short, if your print needs to do a job—like holding weight, enduring a bit of movement, or sitting in the sun—skip the PLA and load up some PETG. It might take a little more patience to tune your settings, but the durability boost is worth every cent.
